Frequently Asked Questions

…about our Burlesque Classes & Shows

What to expect from an Irish Burlesque Academy Class?

The classical Burlesque courses are structured in a way that teaches you a broad amount of different elements to Burlesque Dance each week.  It always begins with a special warm up, followed by some exercises to help posture in heels. From there certain techniques are learned – bump n’ grind, shimmy’s, isolations, garter removal, hula hooping  – it varies week to week. You then work on whatever routine / prop you are learning. You will come away feeling like you have worked out and had a lot of fun!!

What level of fitness is required for the classes?

You don’t need to have a high level of fitness for the classes. They are suitable for every level.

Do I have to be a certain shape / size / age ??

No!! And this is the beauty of Burlesque! It is for everyone no matter what shape / size / age. We have an amazing diverse mix of students. We have students from 18 – 68 and all shapes and sizes.

Do I need previous dance experience?

No we take absolute beginners with no dance experience all the way up to professional.

How many students are in each class?

It depends on which studio you attend. In dance house we can have from 15 – 20. And in Temple Bar 10 – 15 in each class.

Do people sign up alone and not with friends?

Yes! Most people come alone and end up making friends. There is a great atmosphere in the class so no need to be shy 🙂

Can I just do a drop in class?

As we run courses we don’t offer a drop in – we only have a limited amount of places on each course and they are kept for students doing the full course. If we have space on a course we allow a drop in. This is usually after the first week or so.

What if I miss a class on the course?

If you miss a class please let us know and we will do our best to arrange for you to attend another course (running at the same time) to make up your missed class. We always encourage everyone to make up their missed classes.

What should I wear to a Burlesque class?

Wear clothes you feel comfortable in, whether it’s shorts with tights, comfortable play suits / yoga pants – clothes you would take a dance class in. (Must be able to see the line of your legs) Bring a pair of comfortable heels. (No platforms)

No heels required for the Burlesque Bodyfit class and if you would rather use a yoga mat for floor work bring one along with you.

What kind of heels should I wear?

I would always suggest a low comfortable heel – something you can move around in easily. Don’t worry too much for your first class. Students usually end up trying out a few different pairs to find the ones that suit them the most. Any questions just ask your teacher.

What if I can't wear heels?

If you have any kind of injury that would prevent you from wearing heels don’t worry you can still take part without them. Any questions / concerns on this please contact us – info@irishburlesqueacademy.com
